Artist Statement

My collage process is a form of quiet devotion—a practice of listening, layering, and trusting the unseen. I work with canvases that have already lived a life, sourced from thrift stores, second-hand shops, or given to me by others. I don’t paint over what’s there. I respond to it, building atop what was started, whether finished or abandoned.

Using imagery cut from worn and well-loved books, I create collages that draw inspiration from Tosha Silver’s Change Me Prayers and the Divine Beloved Oracle Deck. Sometimes the prayer comes first. Other times, the work speaks first and the prayer follows. Either way, what unfolds is guided—not forced.

This work is about honoring what came before—allowing beauty to rise from what others might discard. It’s about listening to intuition, creating freely, and having fun in the act of making. Each piece becomes a celebration of joy, transformation, and the unexpected magic that emerges when we simply allow.

Much love,
Suzanne Daniels
